Coach Tanya is a former collegiate volleyball player who competed at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where she made an immediate impact as a freshman. She played in all 23 matches, leading the Beacons with 196 kills, while also contributing 43 aces and 139 digs. Tanya was recognized for her performance, earning Little East Rookie of the Week honors twice, and was praised by her coach for her athleticism, fundamentals, and leadership potential. Her time at UMass Boston helped her develop a deep understanding of both offensive and defensive aspects of the game, which she now incorporates into her coaching.
Tanya has extensive coaching experience at various levels. She coached youth girls for Thunderbirds (now Slam Volleyball), served as an assistant coach for boys’ 15-1s at Husky Volleyball for two years, and was head coach of boys’ 16-3s. Additionally, she assisted with the 17-1s Regional Crush girls’ team and worked with regional girls teams for 14s and 15s. As the freshman volleyball coach at Newington High School, Tanya finds fulfillment in helping players achieve their goals and witnessing their growth over the course of a season. In the 2024-2025 club season, Tanya coached Boys 17-3 Blue for NEVBC, Boys 14-1 for Husky, assisted on Boys 16-2s for Husky, and coached Girls 15-3s during the regular season and 15-2s for Nationals (both also at Husky). For Fall 2025, Tanya will be the Girls Assistant Varsity Coach for Kingswood Oxford HS.
Outside of volleyball, Tanya is a senior short-term disability specialist at MetLife and a proud mom to her son, Galo, who also plays volleyball. She continues to compete in adult leagues and tournaments across New England, both indoors and outdoors. Her love for the sport remains strong as she balances her career and family life with her coaching and playing commitments.
