Advanced Workshops are devoted to the development of nuanced and specific high level volleyball skills. Athletes will train with a variety of drills in each session with the intent of advancing their physical skills and conceptual knowledge to play like the pros! #1 Jump Setting: It’s important for high level setters to be able to play the ball above the height of the net. This workshop focuses on the footwork, timing, and hand work necessary to be successful at jump setting, as well as using the techniques of jump setting to dump and attack. #2 Diving & Defense: Keep the ball off the floor! Isn’t that principle the foundation for volleyball? In this two-day workshop, athletes will learn a variety of defensive techniques and moves and how to dive safely. These classes are for high level Intermediate and Advanced athletes in Grades 8+ who have 2+ years of club volleyball experience.

Positional Academies (Coed Grades 8-12)

NEVBC Academies offer intensive training sessions focused on positional skills, providing maximum practice opportunities to enhance abilities. Camps are available as a one-day (six hour) session or a two-day (three hours per day) session and focuses on positional skills, aiming to provide maximum practice opportunities while improving abilities. Each academy is tailored to break down and enhance the essential skills needed for success in specific positions, giving athletes the chance to refine their talents in a dynamic and competitive setting. Positional Academies are for high level Intermediate and Advanced athletes in Grades 8+. Libero Academy will focus on skills that are vital to being a successful and well-rounded libero: Serving, Serve Receive, Defense, Covering & Out of System Setting. This camp is INTENSE and will include a lot of defensive and hustle reps! Setter Academy will emphasize the importance of consistent footwork and handwork in a high rep training environment. Athletes will learn and perfect their technique for Front Setting, Back Setting, Set Tempo, Attacking, and Jump Setting. Attacking & Blocking Academy will be a competitive session focusing on how to effectively get kills from anywhere on the court, and how to block attackers in each zone. This camp is open to all attackers (OH, OPP & MH) and athletes will focus on the following skills: Attacking in Serve Receive, Attacking in Transition, Shot Selection (wrist away, cross body, tipping, etc), and Blocking Footwork, Handwork, and Timing. Every high-level coach will tell you that the team that serves and passes the best is most likely to win, so we made a camp for the two most important skills in the game: Serving & Passing. Whether you are a Libero, or Pin Attacker, our Serving & Passing Academy is designed to be an INTENSE and HIGH-REP session to improve the consistency and power of your serve and to fine-tune your footwork, communication and angles in Serve Receive.

Masterclass (Coed Grades 8-12)

Our Masterclass series are sessions that will combine on-court play with whiteboard chalk talks and film review sessions for a holistic approach to learning. Athletes should come ready to learn on and off the court and will leave with a greater understanding of high level training, skills, techniques, strategies, and concepts for their chosen topic. These classes are for Advanced, high level volleyball athletes in Grades 8+ with excellent ball control and a very strong grasp of volleyball fundamentals, strategies, and team play - if not, these classes will be far too advanced! 3 seasons + of club volleyball strongly recommended. #1 Attacking Mechanics (GARRETT)- Garrett Minyard is the Girls Club Director at NEVBC, an AVCA 30-Under-30 award winner, and a 3x National Champion in overseas leagues. In this class, he's sharing the secrets to developing a dynamic approach and a fast, versatile, and efficient arm swing. Coach Garrett will be bringing it back to basics to show you how having a perfect approach and a great arm swing are foundational to all athletes while simultaneously introducing advanced challenges to push your attacking to the next level. Athletes will participate in on-court skills sessions, weight room training, various cross training activities, and video analysis for a complete breakdown and overhaul of this important skill. This camp is a two part camp this summer- (Part 1: Approach; Part 2: Arm Swing), and for the best results you’ll definitely want to take both sessions. Coach Garrett will be giving drills for athletes to do in between the two sessions in order to maximize their arm swing improvements. Whether you are a middle hitter looking for more terminal velocity on your attacks, or a pin hitter looking to diversify your range, you will feel confident leaving this class. Note: You do not have to do Part 1 AND Part 2. You will benefit significantly if you can only attend one or the other; but for the best results, we recommend attending both sessions! You must register for each camp separately. #2 Floor Defense (CAT) - At the end of the day, volleyball is all about keeping the ball in play and off the ground. Easier said than done, especially as athletes progress to higher levels and the attackers increase the velocity of their attacks, hit with more range, and use a variety of deceptive tactics to keep the defenders guessing. In this Floor Defense Masterclass, Coach Cat (former Ivy League Player of the Year and professional volleyball player) will increase the defensive range and reading ability of all athletes in the class. Athletes can expect to learn the technique and tactics to play the ball dynamically near the floor (including sprawls, dives, extensions, and pancakes) and follow through by going to the floor safely. In addition to defensive movements and technique, athletes will improve their eye sequencing and defensive “reading” to get themselves positioned where the ball is most likely to be attacked. #3 Setting (FROG & LUCI)- This Masterclass is open to high level athletes that are interested in perfecting their technique to become impressively athletic setters. Frog and Luci bring a wealth of setting knowledge from their setting careers here in the US and overseas, and both NEVBC Open Level coaches are excited to share their secrets to high level success. While refining the fundamentals of footwork and handwork, Frog and Luci will also be pushing the athletic boundaries of our setters to help them keep consistent tempo and location in tough situations. Athletes who take this Masterclass can expect to be setting balls on the run, above the height of the net, from the floor and in many other “less than ideal” situations that require advanced athleticism to make those highlight reel-worthy plays!

Summer Class FAQs

Do I need to pre-register for programs?
YES! Online registration is required. We will not be accepting any walk-up or drop-in athletes at our summer classes, and we anticipate that many classes will fill up. This includes our Thursday and Friday night Open Gyms.

The class I want to sign up for is full. What should I do?
If a class is full, please sign up for the waitlist! We anticipate that some classes will fill up fast. If we receive enough demand for a particular class, we will try to open up an additional session or court to accommodate waitlisted athletes!

How do I know which class is right for me?
Our Summer 2025 class levels are organized by “Beginner,” “Intermediate” and “Advanced.” We have also created a quick survey that can help you determine which camps and classes are best for your athlete. All ages/grades are based on the UPCOMING 2025-2026 school year. If you have any class placement questions, please email us at admin@northeastvbc.com.

Do I need to be a NEVBC club player to sign up for classes?
Not at all! Classes are open to all athletes, regardless of previous club affiliation. For our Advanced classes such as Advanced Workshops, Masterclasses, and Elite Positional Training, we will ask for film or a roster verification from a high level club team for any new athletes.

What is the level of your All Skills classes?
For our High School and Middle School All-Skills classes, the level is mixed among the courts, ranging from novice athletes to intermediate/advanced athletes who have played for their school or have club team experience. All athletes will receive training in the key skills needed for success in our sport, as well as competitive game play.

What is the level of your Advanced classes?
For our Advanced Workshops, Masterclasses, and Elite Positional Training, the expectation is that athletes played at least 2-3 years of club volleyball on a high level Club (U16+) or Open (U14+) team. These players have excellent ball control, including very consistent and precise quality contacts in passing, setting, serving and attacking. Advanced players should be able to serve to specific zones consistently, attack or hit downballs to a specific zone with control and speed, and pass in system. Players must know the rotations for a 6-2 and 5-1 team offense, as well as be able to execute team defense systems and out of system play. These players will be expected to initiate their own drills, control the ball, and keep up the speed of play in fast paced and competitive drills and game play. New athletes will be asked for film or a roster verification from a high level club team to enter these classes.

Will you be adding more classes?

We will be adding more sessions and one-day classes as we get closer to the summer, and we often add last-minute one-off training sessions throughout the summer. Be sure to subscribe to our emails and check our Instagram feed and stories for updates on new classes!
