Coach Augusto brings a wealth of experience to the volleyball coaching world, having honed his skills both on the court and in leadership roles. Originally from Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil, Augusto’s volleyball journey began in high school, where he developed a passion for the sport with the guidance of a friend. His commitment to the game took him through four years of college play, culminating in a prestigious tenure with Joquei Clube de Goiás, the top volleyball club in his state. Augusto also represented his state in regional competitions, equivalent to Division I and state league levels in the United States, providing him with a deep understanding of the competitive volleyball landscape.
Augusto’s coaching career is marked by a diverse range of experiences. He spent seven years as the head coach of a boys’ high school team in Brazil, where he earned recognition as the “Best Boys High School Coach” in 1998. He also served as an assistant coach and physical educator for a club over the course of two years. Under his leadership, his teams consistently achieved success, including winning two gold medals (1998, 1999) and two silver medals (1994, 1997) in regional competitions. His approach to coaching emphasizes individualized development, keenly evaluating players’ needs and tailoring strategies to help each athlete enhance their skills and reach their potential. His favorite drill, Attackers vs. Blockers, reflects his focus on developing the technical and mental aspects of the game, helping players push their limits and perform at their highest level.
Outside of coaching, Augusto brings a rich array of interests and professional expertise. A Project Manager and IT Manager at Prestige Flooring in New York, he also serves as a pastor on Sundays, demonstrating his passion for guiding and supporting others in various facets of life. When coaching at NEVBC, Augusto is known for his infectious enthusiasm, relentless motivation, and commitment to fostering a supportive and dynamic environment. Whether it’s celebrating a victory, offering guidance under pressure, or simply expressing pride in his athletes’ efforts, Augusto’s unwavering dedication to his players’ growth is always at the forefront.
